A whole-house stay in Izumicho, central Toyama Stay in everyday Toyama.
A 1958 wooden house with tatami rooms and a spacious doma.
There is a spring-water spot just around the corner, and a short walk takes you into the everyday life of the neighborhood.
Now and then, the Tateyama mountains appear beyond the rooftops.
About
The quiet comfort
of a Showa-era home.
Kadoya is a wooden house built in 1958. It was once the neighborhood greengrocer, later a photo studio, and is now rented out as a whole house to one group at a time.
A boat-bottom (funazoko) ceiling, plaster walls, and straw-core tatami mats. We have kept these features of a Showa-era Japanese home and continue to care for the house as we welcome guests.
Izumicho has spring water that people have valued since the Edo period. You can fill a bottle at a spring-water spot about a one-minute walk from the house. We recommend using it for your morning coffee.
The area is close to the city center and convenient, yet long-established shops and everyday neighborhood life still continue here.
Staying at Kadoya is also a gentle introduction to Toyama’s water and the understated culture of everyday life here.
Quiet evenings and mornings.
Kadoya is a wooden house in a long-established residential neighborhood in central Toyama.
It is a convenient spot for shopping and dining, yet just off the main street, Izumicho has a calm, unhurried feel.
Guests have mentioned enjoying the quiet of the area and having a restful stay.
Just beyond the windows live families who have called this neighborhood home for many years.
In the evening, enjoy the doma dining space as you would a quiet café, with warm, gentle conversation in step with the rhythm of the neighborhood.
And the next morning, enjoy a cup of coffee made with water from the nearby spring.

Town
From Kadoya
into Toyama —
and a stop
along the way.
Kadoya is in Izumicho, in the center of Toyama City.
It is about 1.5 km south of Toyama Station. A tram from the station takes you to the nearest stop in about 10 minutes with no transfers, and from there it is about a 10-minute walk. Many guests stay with us as a base for exploring Toyama City and for trips to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route and the Kurobe Gorge Railway’s trolley train.
With free parking for two cars, Kadoya also works well as a base for road trips to Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, and Hida-Takayama.
Around the house, you’ll find the Toyama Glass Art Museum, old-fashioned shopping streets, and places to enjoy sushi and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay.
Just 80 meters from the house is a natural spring in Izumicho, known since the Edo period. Toyama’s tap water is good too, but local people still come here to fill their bottles as part of their daily routine.
Walk a little further and you’ll come across small, long-established shops, markets selling local food, galleries, and restaurants that have been featured in the Michelin Guide.
Kadoya sits within the everyday life of Toyama, beyond the usual sightseeing spots. As you walk, the daily life and culture of the town gradually come into view.
Whether you head out sightseeing, take a slow walk through town, or simply spend an unhurried day at home in a Showa-era house, we hope you enjoy your time in Toyama.
